An Exact Multiplicity Result for a Class of Semilinear Equations

For a class of Dirichlet problems in two dimensions, generalizing the model case ∆u+ λu(u− b)(c− u) = 0 in |x| < R,u = 0 on |x| = R, ∗Supported in part by the National Science Foundation.

Exact Controllability for Multidimensional Semilinear Hyperbolic Equations

In this paper, we obtain a global exact controllability result for a class of multidi-mensional semilinear hyperbolic equations with a superlinear nonlinearity and variable coefficients. For this purpose, we establish an observability estimate for the linear hyperbolic equation with an unbounded potential, in which the crucial observability constant is estimated explicitly by a function of the ...

A multiplicity result for a semilinear Maxwell type equation

In this paper we look for solutions of the equation δdA = f (〈A,A〉)A in R, where A is a 1-differential form and k ≥ 2. These solutions are critical points of a functional which is strongly degenerate because of the presence of the differential operator δd. We prove that, assuming a suitable convexity condition on the nonlinearity, the equation possesses infinitely many finite energy solutions.

On Weak Solutions of Semilinear Hyperbolic-parabolic Equations

In this paper we prove the existence and uniqueness of weak solutions of the mixed problem for the nonlinear hyperbolic-parabolic equation (K (x, t)u’)’ + K(x, t)u’ + A(t)u + F(u) f with null Dirichlet boundary conditions and zero initial data, where F(s) is a continuous function such that sF(s) >_ O, Vs E R and {A(t);t >_ 0} is a family of operators of L(H(2);H-I(gt)) For the existence we appl...

The Quenching of Solutions of Semilinear Hyperbolic Equations

We consider the problem u, U,,x + b (u(x, t)), 0< x < L, >0; u(0, t) u(L, t)=0; u(x, O) ut(x, 0)=0. Assume that b (-oe, A) (0, ee) is continuously differentiable, monotone increasing, convex, and satisfies lim,_.a-b(u)= +ee. We prove that there exist numbers L1 and L2, 0 L2, then a weak solution u (to be defined) quenches in the sense that u reaches A in finite time; if...
